The Temecula Valley Girls Softball Association (TVGSA) stands as a cornerstone in nurturing the growth and empowerment of young athletes through the sport of softball. Based in the vibrant community of Temecula, California, TVGSA is more than just a sports organization; it’s a platform for fostering teamwork, leadership, and character development. RULES

MANAGING, COACHING, TEAM PARENT

  • A maximum of four (4) USA registered adults are allowed in the dugout/on the field during games;
  • Manager, coaches, and Team Parent must be listed on the team roster with USA membership ID numbers and present their USA cards (non-picture or picture) at check-in;
  • All managing and coaching must occur from within the dugout while on defense and from the coaches’ boxes while on offense;
  • No coaching is permitted from outside the field of play;
  • A Team Parent may assist in organizing the team in the dugout but cannot coach or manage;
  • To signal the catcher, a coach can use a bucket just outside the dugout opening.

DIVISION RULES

8U Division Only

  • Four outfielders allowed, staying at least 10 feet behind base paths or on the outfield grass until the ball is hit.
  • 5 runs per inning. Open inning after 3 complete innings.
  • Walks are allowed.
  • No dropped third strike.
  • No infield fly rule.
  • Base Stealing – Only one base per pitch. No stealing home.
  • Home Plate is “Frozen”. Players can only advance home on a batted ball or an award.
  • Pitcher must control the ball within the circle after a play.
  • Use a bat-around lineup in all games (Round Robin) with free substitution.
  • During pool play, no penalty for a player who cannot bat, except ejection (out every at-bat).
  • During bracket play, such a player is out the first time only and removed for the rest of the game, except ejection (out every at-bat).
  • A courtesy runner may replace an injured runner (last out).

10U/12U/14U Division

  • 10U: 5 runs per inning. 12U/14U: 6 runs per inning. Open inning after 3 complete innings (Pool and Bracket play only);
  • No run limit during championship game;
  • Different rules for using bat-around, straight nine, DP/Flex, and/or EP in different scenarios;
  • If a player cannot bat, they are out the first time only and must be removed for the rest of the game;
  • Substitution and courtesy runner rules follow USA Softball guidelines.

TIME LIMITS

Pool Play

  • One hour and twenty minutes (1:20) or seven (7) innings for 10U, 12U, 14U; six (6) innings for 8U, whichever comes first;
  • If the home team is ahead at 1:20, the game ends;
  • Tied games follow specific rules depending on the situation.

Bracket Play

  • No new inning starts after one hour and twenty minutes (1:20) for all divisions;
  • Championship Game: 6 innings for 8U, 7 innings for 10U, 12U, 14U, or no new inning after one hour and thirty-five minutes (1:35). Drop dead of two hours (2:00).

DUGOUTS

  • Teams playing back-to-back games stay in their respective dugouts throughout the tournament;
  • Dugout assignments vary based on game type and seeding.

SCOREKEEPING

  • Both teams provide official scorekeepers;
  • Home team keeps the official score on provided sheets;
  • Umpire confers with scorekeeper throughout and at the end of the game;
  • Signed scorecards must be turned in within 15 minutes after game completion.

PLAYER ATTIRE

  • No exposed jewelry, except for medical alert bracelets or necklaces taped to the body;
  • No metal cleats for 8U, 10U, 12U. 14U can wear metal cleats;
  • Bats and helmets must meet ASA approval and be subject to inspection.
