Soccer Tournaments in PennsylvaniaThere are so many soccer tournaments in Pennsylvania that the state is one of only five in the country that is so large that it has to be split in two.
In Pennsylvania’s case, the division comes between east and west, with the majority of the tournament action tending to take place in the east in the Philadelphia region. The most well known club in this part of the state is FC Delco, which is a regular participant in regional and national tournaments and was the childhood club of such US National team stars as Bobby Convey, Chris Albright and Kyle Martino. Delco holds its own tournament – The Players Cup – over Memorial Day weekend. Out west towards the Pittsburgh region, there is much good soccer being played with Beadling one of the main clubs. However, by being further away from the east coast interstates, the western part of the state tends to defer somewhat. From the Poconos in the state’s northeast to the busy city of Pittsburgh in the southwest, Pennsylvania has much to offer. Combining a tournament with a hike in the mountains or one of the many state parks will appeal to many, as will action on the soccer field and in the historical city of Philadelphia, which is home to the Liberty Bell and, of course, the cheese steak! Just be sure to wait until after you’ve played for that guilty pleasure! In 2010, of course, MLS will be going to the Philadelphia region with a brand new team that will be playing in Chester.
