Reach 11 Complex Opens New Fields
18 Fields to Host Soccer Tournaments in Arizona
Reach 11 Sports Complex jsut outside Phoenix, AZ opened a second group of soccer fields over Presidents Day weekend when tournament play christened eight new fields.
The new fields bring the number at the complex to 18, which makes it one of the largest soccer complexes in the western United States.
The complex is already a popular site for local, regional and national tournaments, says park manager Genel Burwell, but even an 18-field facility is not large enough to meet demand. Larger tournaments also use the fields at Rose Mofford and Desert West sports complexes.
The eight additional fields cost just under $10 million to build, funding for which came from 2006 bonds. In addition to the 18 soccer fields, the complex now includes parking, restrooms, a permanent concession stand, a playground, a shaded picnic area and maintenance facilities.
The Reach 11 complex has one main drawback, though, in that nearby amenities are less than tournament organizers and out-of-town visitors would ideally like. The nearest budget lodging, for example, is 5 miles away along Interstate 17.
