Poor Fields and Scheduling, Expensive Hotel

We took a U15 Girls team to this soccer tournament. The field we played on for our Saturday games was very small and in terrible shape. The grass was dead and had many bare spots and holes.

The referee let our first game get completely out of control and players were getting hurt. Game scheduling could have been better. The final tournament games were held at 4:30pm and this put traveling teams on the road for all night drives home.

Area hotels seemed to have raised their room rates for the tournament weekend. The Holiday Inn Express that we stayed at charged $135/night. Not worth the price.

The town of Prescott is nice, though.

I hate when tournaments do that. They have a stay to Play policy which means you have no choice but to stay in their designated hotels. Then the hotel charges you more than you would otherwise have to pay.

It's like having a tax on the tournament fee that only the out of town teams have to pay.

Stay to Play policy is okay (I guess) but if a tournament has one, I think they have a responsibility to secure the best possible rates from all participating hotles.

If I can go online a get a cheaper rate for the same room with just the click of a mouse, it's not right to force me to pay the higher rate as a condition of entry into the tournament - especially if my team is booking up to ten rooms.

That does seem a little expensive for a Holiday Inn Express. You could probably get that for about $120 through Priceline.com or Expedia.com on any other spring weekend in Prescott.
