Polar CupNow in its 17th year, the Polar Cup owns the distinction of being the "largest indoor soccer tournament in Canada." In fact, on any given day of the tournament, a combined total of 15,000 players, coaches, spectators and volunteers take part. Last year's event attracted almost 350 teams from all over Western Canada from as far away as the North West Territories, Yukon, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. And this year, organizers hope to bring in some teams from Ontario and Quebec, as well as the Maritime provinces. Six indoor venues are used to host games including the three main soccer centers in Edmonton, the Sherwood Park Millennium Center, the Spruce Grove Tri-Leisure Center and the Servus Credit Union Center in St. Albert (formerly the MPLC). Teams are guaranteed a minimum of 3 games and receive T-shirts for each participating player, as well as various other gifts and prizes from tournament sponsors.
