Mytikas Cup
Now in its 17th year, Mytikas Cup has become one of the top soccer tournaments in Europe, having hosted over 2,500 teams from 48 different countries. Organizers expect this year's tournament to draw over 250 teams and 20 different nationalities. The event takes place in Katerini, at the foot of mount Olympus, about 430 km north of Athens and 70 km south of Thessaloniki. It is an area that attracts thousands of tourists every year for its beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters, sunshine and excellent accommodations. Teams stay at 4 star hotels in the area of Katerini and three meals a day (breakfast-lunch-dinner) are provided at the hotel restaurants, where the menu is especially designed to accommodate the special needs of athletes. Each team plays at least 4 games during the tournament, with the possibility of 2 games in one day. Preliminary games start on Tuesday, and finish with the finals of all four categories on Friday. Games take place on grass fields through the Katerini area. All fields are well lit to allow for night games and, in case of extreme weather conditions, the games can be moved to artificial fields.
