Now in its 2nd year, the Madrid Cup is an international youth soccer tournament that caters to teams aged U8 to U19 for boys and from U12 to U16 for girls.
In its first year, the tournament attracted more than 50 teams from as far away as the USA, Venezuela, Taiwan, Libya and Sweden. Organizers expect the event to double in size this year, and bring in over 100 teams from 20 different countries, creating national partnerships for the players, and making the Madrid Cup one of the world's top youth soccer tournaments.
Spain is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of Europe's top sporting destinations. Besides its rich soccer heritage as home to Real Madrid, Barcelona, and the current European champion Spanish national team, it is also the home of tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, and cyclist Alberto Contador, winner of the 2009 Tour de France.
