If you want to get a sense of just how big a deal the Gothia Cup is, take a look at this Promotional Video from a few years ago. It really does give a sense of the sheer scale of what is one of the largest international youth soccer tournaments events in the world.

The event is hosted by the professional club BK Hacken, which plays in the second division of the Swedish soccer league, with support from the city of Gothenburg, and attracts 1,500 teams from 70 nations.

Some of the other statistics are just staggering: 91 fields, 295,000 spectators (including 52,000 and 28,000 at the opening ceremonies and finals, respectively), over 4,300 games, and 33,000 participants (average age 15.5).

It all adds up to a once-in-a-lifetime event that players, coaches and parents will never forget.

Gothenburg is one of the most beautiful cities in Sweden with plenty for visiting soccer families to do and see. The architecture blends well with the cobbled streets, and diverse shopping centers, restaurants and cafes.

The city is famous for its friendly people and hospitality, as well as its many beautiful canals, parks, and bike trails. There is also an excellent system of trams and buses that allows easy transport to just about anywhere in the city.

On the outskirts of the city, and readily accessible by foot, bus or tram, is the Lisenberg Amusement Park which offers a wide range of entertainment ptions for players and families, including rides, restaurants, cafes, music and live entertainment, with a giant firework display at night.

Gothenburg is a also a shopper’s paradise where all kinds of shops from fashionable boutiques and department stores, to picturesque markets selling crafts, souvenirs and antiques can be easily accessed all over the city.
