The Empire Cup and the Lakefront Classic soccer tournaments have merged to create what is now believed to be the largest youth soccer tournament in New York State.

The first edition of the new combined tournament will take place on June 18-20, 2010 in Webster, NY and is expected to attract up to 300 teams and 5,000 youth soccer players.

The Empire Cup soccer tournament, hosted by the Empire United Soccer Academy, has been an elite level youth soccer tournament for eight years. Teams from all over the northeastern United States, as well as Canada, have competed over the years at this prestigious event.

The Lakefront Classic Soccer Tournament, meanwhile, has been hosted by Webster Soccer Association for eighteen years, and has earned a reputation as one of the leading youth travel soccer tournaments in the region.

In 2009, the tournament attracted almost 240 teams and 4,000 youth soccer players from New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Canada.

The newly combined tournament will offer two divisions for participating teams. The “Empire Cup Elite Division” has now been added to the Lakefront Classic to cater to premier level teams competing in ages U8-U15.

According to Mike Henderson, tournament director of the Empire Cup, the EUSA has long admired the Lakefront Classic and wanted to join forces in order to create a more dynamic atmosphere for its own event.

“The Lakefront Classic has not only been one of New York State's longest running and largest youth soccer tournaments, but is also very well organized and managed,” he says. “The facilities in Webster will provide top level pitches for all of our matches.”

For organizers of the Lakefront Classic, the merger allows their event to attract a higher caliber of teams. “WSA's premier teams are excited to host, along with EUSA, the top youth soccer teams from the Northeast,” says tournament director Rich Rogers.
