Youth Boys' Teams Crowned Champs
National Championships Wrap Up in Virgina
July 28, 2009
Eight U-13 through U-17 boys' teams were crowned national champions at this week’s National Cup VIII Finalsat the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach, Va.
Eight different states were represented among the boys' national championship teams.
In a return trip to Hampton Roads, St. Louis Scott Gallagher captured the U-16 Boys Super Group national championship with a 3-1 victory over CRSC Brigade (Calif.) after not advancing to the title contest during last year's National Cup VII Finals in the U-15 Super Group bracket.
One of the tournament's most exciting games resulted in Ironbound SC Fury (N.J.) claiming the U-13 Boys Super Group national championship with a back-and-forth, wildly-exciting 5-3 victory over Chicago G-Force (Ill.).
"We worked hard for this, so we're going to enjoy this moment," said Ironbound SC Fury head coach Omid Namazi.
Jamestown SC Jammers Gold, the only club with multiple teams in playing in Tuesday's championship contests, obtained the U-16 Boys Premier title.
The event for boys' teams complements the July 31-Aug. 3 event for girls' teams, which will also take place in conjunction with the National Collegiate Showcase.

In addition to the National Cup VIII Finals, high-level U-15 through U-17 squads displayed their skills to attending college coaches as part of the National Collegiate Showcase. The jointly-held events maximize college coach and scout attendance by presenting the rare opportunity to scout teams and players from throughout the country at two separate events, but at the same location.
