Soccer Tournaments in OregonSoccer tournaments in Oregon benefit from a vibrant soccer scene that includes nationally recognized youth, college and professional teams. And the fact that the largest sports shoe manufacturer in the world has its global headquarters in the state is also a big plus.
Nike's presence in Beaverton, OR no doubt accounts for the fact that the Manchester United Premier Cup, reportedly the largest and most competitive international youth soccer tournament in the world, is played here. Other celebrated youth tournaments include the Portland Cup and the FC Portland Winter College Showcase. At the collegiate level, the Portland Pilots women's team has twice won the NCAA Division 1 College Cup (in 2002 and 2005). Tiffeny Millbret and Christine Sinclair are just the most famous of countless great player who have come through the program that the late Clive Charles built. On the professional side, it's the men's game that gets the attention in Oregon, with the Beaver State being home to the Portland Timbers, formerly of the North American Soccer League, more recently of the USL and soon-to-be of Major League Soccer. The Timbers have long been one of the better supported teams in their league and fans can hardly wait until 2001 when they can resume their heated rivalry with the Seattle Sounders to the north. Meanwhile, here is our list of soccer tournaments in Oregon.
