Soccer Tournaments in New York
There are quite possibly more soccer tournaments in New York than any other northeastern state.
The empire state is one of five in the nation that is so large, it has been split up between governing bodies of eastern New York and western New York. Even within that structure, there is a third body, the Long Island Junior Soccer League that is so large that it virtually operates as a state association in its own right.
There are dozens of tournaments, both indoor and outdoor, from Long Island all the way up to Buffalo, offering something for every level of play. Some of the best know include the college showcase events the Mad Dog Showcase in the Albany area and Score at the Shore at Mitchell Field on Long Island.
On the playing side, New York was the home of the USA’s first “super club” in the New York Cosmos (even though they played in New Jersey) and, of course, is the current home of the Red Bulls. It is also where the corporate headquarters of both MLS and CONCACAF are located, as well as the Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta.
For visiting soccer families there is, of course, New York City, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, plus the beaches of Long Island Sound. Further upstate, the Catskills offer much to the family that is looking to combine a few days R and R with their trip to a tournament, and everyone should try and take in at least one trip to Naigara Falls in their lifetime.
Here, then, is our list of soccer tournaments in New York. And don’t forget you can always used our search function if you can’t immediately find a tournament you are looking for.
