Soccer Tournaments in Minnesota
The landscape of youth soccer tournaments in Minnesota is dominated by the Schwan's USA Cup, which is a huge international event that takes place in July at the National Sports Center, a 600-acre amateur sports and meeting facility. The NSC has an incredible 52 soccer fields, and has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest soccer complex in the world.
But the USA Cup is by no means the only youth soccer tournament in the state. Several more are run throughout the year at the very same NSC complex. The Minnesota Youth Soccer Association has 94,000 members, so there is certainly plenty of competition for every level of play.
Also calling Minnesota home are the Minnesota Thunder, of the USL’s Division 1 professional league, and the Minnesota Lightning women’s team of the W-League. The Thunder has been a power in the USL for years and was where US National teamer Tony Sanneh began his professional career.
For the visiting soccer family there is plenty to do besides soccer. There are 7,326 square miles of water, for example, for the outdoors, sporty types. The mall of America in Bloomington will provide enough activity to keep even the most restless kids occupied, and there is a nationally acclaimed arts and culture scene in and around the Twin Cities.
