Soccer Tournaments in Maryland

Though the high school season takes place in the fall, soccer tournaments in Maryland cater for players of all ages throughout the year. Sand Soccer Ad 2008

The slightly milder climate, when compared to those states further north, means that the Maryland tournament season runs from March through Thanksgiving. Because of this, many events are popular with teams from the New England and New York regions, particularly in the early part of the year when coaches are keen to see their sides prepare for the upcoming season in a competitive, outdoor environment.

The Maryland youth soccer association has over 120 affiliated clubs and 60,000 registered players. Given this huge interest in the sport, it is not surprising that Maryland has developed a reputation of being a powerhouse on the regional and national scenes. Prominent clubs include Bethesda, which won the small matter of eight state cups last spring, as well as Baltimore Bays and Potomac Soccer. Each of these clubs run their own premier tournaments throughout the year.

Maryland itself is an attractive state to visit and offers much to do when there is no soccer action taking place. Visitors are in close proximity to Washington DC and a visit to Maryland is not complete without sampling some of its world-famous crab cakes in the impressive Baltimore harbor area. If you fancy watching some top class soccer, MLS side, DC United, is close by, as is men’s NCAA national powerhouse University of Maryland.
