Soccer Tournaments in California

There are more soccer tournaments in California than any other state, and more top-flight players, too. US National team stars like Eric Wynalda, Joe Max More, Brandi Chastain and Landon Donovan all started their playing careers on the fields of California.

Good weather year round is obviously one of the key reasons, and it also explains why California is among the nation’s top tourist destinations. There is so much to do and see there that the idea of combining a few days of family vacation time with a soccer-playing child’s top-flight tournament experience seems to be a perfect way of killing two travel birds with one stone.

The Surf Cup in San Diego is just one of several soccer tournaments in California that attract teams from all over the country. We know of one club from here in Massachusetts that recently sent a team there to compete. Other prestigious events include the Celtic Cup in San Bernadino, and the Nomads College Showcase in La Jolla. But there are dozens of others.
