National Cup VI Finals Open July 21-24 with Boys U15-U17 Action in Greensboro
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C – US Club Soccer’s 2007 National Cup VI Finals commence July 21-24 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. with national championships awarded in Boys U15-U17 Super Group and Premier divisions. After earning berths to the Finals at the National Cup VI Regionals, held from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July weekend, 44 teams will contend to hoist the National Cup trophy, The Doug Hamilton Memorial Cup.
Three teams are seeking to repeat as National Cup Champions during the opening weekend of Finals. The Irvine Strikers (CA), competing in the Super Group U15 flight, won the Super Group U14 title in 2006 and allowed just a single goal in winning the 2007 Region F event in San Bernardino, Calif.
Premier U15 Champions last year, Ironbound SC Blaze (NJ) moved up to the Super Group bracket in 2007 as U16s and advanced to the Finals by downing East Fishkill Thunder (NY), 1-0, in LaGrangeville, N.Y. at the Region A tournament.
South Charlotte SA’s (NC) U17s likewise leaped to Super Group a year after winning the Premier championship as U16s with a 1-0 overtime victory over Team Dayton (OH), who also returns to the Finals in the higher competitive division. The two sides will renew acquaintances on July 23, the final day of group play, with a spot in the Super Group U17 Final potentially at stake.
Among the teams seeking their first National Cup Championship are three squads with multiple Regional titles on their resume. Santa Rosa United’s (CA) Super Group U15s are a three-time Regional Champion, while Match Fit Academy’s (NJ) Super Group U16s and Mount Hamilton Lobitios’ (CA) Super Group U17s possess a pair of National Cup Regionals victories.
Albion SC (CA) is the only club who will send multiple teams to the opening weekend of National Cup VI Finals. The San Diego based organization will be represented in the Super Group U15 and U16 flights.
Teams from 16 states will compete at the Finals with Hawaii Rush Nike’s Premier U15 Boys having the furthest journey, while North Carolina’s Carolina Goldstar Select (Super Group U15), Charlotte SC (Super Group U16) and South Charlotte SA (Super Group U17) will have a relatively short drive.
