Three Teams Attempting to Repeat at National Cup Finals
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Three teams will attempt to repeat as National Cup Champions when the U.S. Club Soccer’s 2007 National Cup VI Finals commences July 21-24 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
The Irvine Strikers (CA), Ironbound SC Blaze (NJ) and South Charlotte SA’s (NC) all won championships in their respective age brackets last year. This year, in the National Cup Finals – which awards championships in boys U15-U17 Super Group and Premier divisions – each are trying to conquer their new age groups.
Overall, 44 teams will contend to hoist the National Cup trophy, The Doug Hamilton Memorial Cup.
The Strikers, competing in the Super Group U15 flight, won the Super Group U14 title in 2006 and allowed just a single goal in winning the 2007 Region F event in San Bernardino, Calif.
Premier U15 Champions last year, Ironbound SC moved up to the Super Group bracket in 2007 as U16s and advanced to the Finals by downing East Fishkill Thunder (NY), 1-0, in LaGrangeville, N.Y. at the Region A tournament.
South Charlotte’s U17s likewise leaped to Super Group a year after winning the Premier championship as U16s with a 1-0 overtime victory over Team Dayton (OH). The two sides will renew acquaintances on July 23, the final day of group play, with a spot in the Super Group U17 Final potentially at stake.
