Empire Cup and Lakefront Classic Merge
The Empire Cup and the Lakefront Classic soccer tournaments have merged to create what is now believed to be the largest youth soccer tournament in New York State.
The first edition of the new combined tournament will take place on June 18-20, 2010 in Webster, NY and is expected to attract up to 300 teams and 5,000 youth soccer players.
The Empire Cup soccer tournament, hosted by the Empire United Soccer Academy, has been an elite level youth soccer tournament for eight years. Teams from all over the northeastern United States, as well as Canada, have competed over the years at this prestigious event.
The Lakefront Classic Soccer Tournament, meanwhile, has been hosted by Webster Soccer Association for eighteen years, and has earned a reputation as one of the leading youth travel soccer tournaments in the region.
Soccer Tournament Business
The US Youth Soccer Region II games will be held in Beavercreek, Ohio next year with the potential to bring the city millions of dollars, according to the Dayton Business Journal.
Similar tournaments have brought millions of dollars to the Dayton area in years past, including the Adidas Warrior Soccer Tournament, which hauled in an estimated $7.5 million to the region this year with more than 20,000 players, coaches and spectators flooding the area.

- August 24, 2009 - The Chicago ECNL Showcase was played on Aug. 14-16.In all, 24 teams from eight clubs played their first three regular-season games at the event with Colorado Rush and SC del Sol going 7-1-1 and 6-2-1, respectively, at the event. FC Milwaukee was also represented well with a 5-1-3 mark. more
- August 4, 2009 - The Girls' National Cup VIII Finals saw nine U-13 through U-17 girls' teams – including two from Illinois – crowned national champions at the annual event, held July 31-Aug. 3 at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. more

Soccer Tournament Spotlight
Elite Tournaments specializes in soccer tournaments and runs 14 events throughout the year in Maryland, including this past weekend’s Mason-Dixon Cup.
Elite Tournaments was founded in 2000 by Mike Libbers, who was fed up with disorganized or poorly run tournaments.
One of Elite’s biggest events in the 500-team Columbia Invitational held every May. The Mason Dixon Cup is a much smaller event, drawing 63 teams this past weekend, but still draws teams from different states all around Maryland.
