Futbol de Playa Although it bills itself as “the best adult sand soccer competition and fiesta in the Western United States,” the Futbol de Playa actually takes place in Mexico, about 45 minutes south of the border.
The event has been running for the last 15 years.
The competition varies slightly from other beach soccer tournaments in that it allows for 7v7 play and two 20-minute halves. There is a cash prize of $325 to the winner, and the entry fee is also $325. So basically, you win and you play for free. Organizers sell the fiesta part of the deal as much as the soccer, and it’s clear that the target audience is young adults. The idea is to have a good time besides just playing soccer. (Advice to bring your own alcohol as it’s cheaper than hotel prices might give participants a sense of what to expect). If you’re in the target demographic, it looks like a real blast.
