Dallas Cup

Dallas Cup Logo

The Dallas Cup is the oldest of a growing number of international soccer tournaments hosted in the USA, and is widely regarded as one of the premier youth soccer tournaments held anywhere in the world.

Originally founded in 1980 by the Texas Longhorns Soccer Club as a way to return the hospitality its traveling teams had been shown over the years by European hosts, the event soon became bigger than the club and now exists as a stand-alone tournament in its own right.

The tournament always takes place between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, which means its place on the calendar is not always consistent. The great benefit of this timing, though, is that Easter has traditionally been a big week for soccer tournaments throughout Europe, making it easier for organizers to attract some of the top teams from across the pond.

And, boy, have they done a good job of that!

About 40% of the Dallas Cup's participating teams come from overseas, including the youth teams of such famous clubs as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Ajax. South America, too, has sent its share of participants, including Tahuichi of Bolivia, Sao Paulo of Brazil and Boca Juniors of Argentina.

Players who have competed in the Dallas Cup include some of the biggest names of the world game, such as David Beckham (England), Raul (Spain), Landon Donovan (USA) and Giovanni Dos Santos (Mexico). As such, the event has become a magnet for soccer scouts from around the world hoping to uncover the next big star.

So it's fair to say that the Dallas Cup is a pretty big deal. If your team is good enough to compete, and lucky enough to be accepted, it could provide a stepping stone to something very special.
