“The 2007 Champions Cup field consists of a great mix of talented, renowned clubs from across the country,” said US Club Soccer Executive Director, Bill Sage. “The competition is sure to be of the highest quality as teams vie to help their club win a championship. In addition to providing an arena for the country’s elite youth soccer programs to test themselves on the field, the Champions Cup also fosters the important work of building club camaraderie.”
The Champions Cup format focuses on the importance of the entire club. During the first three days of the Cup, two, four-team pools in each age division will play in a round robin format. Following pool play, placement matches pairing teams from corresponding groups based on their results will determine the eventual Cup winner in each age bracket.
While individual age group winners will be recognized, the overall Champions Cup winner in each gender will be the club with the most cumulative points from its participating teams in all three age groups.
The inaugural Champions Cup was staged in 2006, with CASL crowned as the boys’ champion club and Southern California Blues SC winning the girls’ club title.
